Kuching Festival Fair 2019 古晋美食节

Time flies, Kuching Festival Fair 2019 is going to end today, 18th Aug 2019.  I only managed to visit once this year.  However, this year I was lack of motivation to go.  I didn't manage to visit every stall too because I had my baby nephew with me. 




This stall was quite popular for its scallion pancake last year.




My sister-in-law bought their durian balls. Not bad too, but the ball was rather small in size.




I found something special at this stall, selling Kürtőskalács which I ever had it in Prague. They have two versions, sweet version is with ice cream on top, and salty version is stuffed with beef goulash. For more details, remember to watch the video clip attached below.




I had the craving for something sweet so I bought the ice cream version, sprinkled with Oreo powder. Cost RM11. The ice cream was great, the pastry was coated with chocolate so the texture was quite hard.




I forgot to snapshot a picture of the yakitori I bought. My bro asked me to get this curry fishball for him. Waited few minutes for my turn, decided to buy their three layer pork yakitori as well. Cost RM3 per stick. It turned out its taste was surprisingly great and the meat was juicy, this worth your time to queue up for.  I would definitely go back for it again next year.




Saw these interesting things, apple fries and mee goreng cheese toastie. But we didn't get it.




This Swedish meatballs from Stall 190A is highly recommended as well.




We had this Duck Egg Fried Kueh Tiaw last year and its taste was delicious. This year my bro bought it again, but it was disappointing us. The taste was below par. According to my bro, it was fried by different lady this year.

White Rabbit Milk Tea is another hot item at Kuching festival fair this year.

Kuching Food Festival 2018 古晋美食节 (II)

Last Tuesday we went to Kuching Food Festival again to try out some food as recommended on Facebook. First stop, we queued for this onion pancake. Ordered the original version with egg, RM5. Quite expensive though.




The taste of this onion pancake was quite predictable. But it's not really like the Taiwan version. Not crispy, its taste is more similar to roti canai.




Souffle´ pancake, RM8. I ordered the salted cheese flavour, had to wait 30 minutes.




I didn't really have high expectation on this but it surprised me as it was really soft and fluffy.




This is potato cheese ball. We didn't finish it. The price at RM10 for 3 pieces is not really worth it. I guess it tastes better when served hot?




Hokkaido Cheese Toast, we would recommend this.




My bro is not the type of person who likes toast and bun. Surprisingly, he liked this. The cheese can pull really long.




As we were waiting for cheese toast, we noticed there were customers lining up for this. Out of curiousity, we also joined the queue.




The price is a bit pricey, RM8 for a fried kueh tiaw with duck egg. The portion is little. Luckily the taste was good.




My bro bought this Taiwan minced pork rice 嘉一台湾卤肉饭 again. Add-on braised pork skin. This time the rice was well-cooked.




My bro bought this pork satays. I had no idea which stall he got it from. It was really good taste, juicy and tender. Dip it with chilli sauce, it should goes well with rice, slurp! Highly recommended.




This is my bro's favourite, curry fish balls.




I wanted to try out the 24K Gold ice cream. When I walked up to the stall and saw the price, I turned rational and withdrew. RM18! What a rip-off.

Then I intended to try out this watermelon ice cream too. If the price is between RM8 - RM10, I can still accept the price. Walked toward to the stall, saw the price on menu RM12. Okay, turned and walked away. For me, most of the food price at Kuching Food Festival is not so friendly.

Kuching Food Festival 2018 古晋美食节 (I)

Anyone here has been to Kuching Food Festival 2018? I went there with family last week. Too bad it rained when the crowd started to flow in, we had to quickly browse and randomly picked the food to buy. The variety of food was good, less duplication this year.














I don't understand why this fish (whitespotted wedgefish) is placed in the middle of the walkway. Is this appropriate? Clueless the purpose of displaying it.







I'm quite tempted to try this cone ice cream.






Not sure if this is the same vendor I bought the oyster pancake last year. The guy mentioned the waiting time was 30 minutes, I decided not to waste my time to wait.







If not mistaken, there are two stalls selling Souffle pancake. It's quite a new thing in Kuching.






We patronized this stall last year. This year we bought from them again, however... I got quite let down with the undercooked rice.




I bought oyster pancake from this stall. The oysters were not as juicy, the size of oyster is less than a thumb size. Overall the taste was good. We had to queue in the rain.




The can drinks were on stock clearance offer, I can't recall how much my bro has paid for it. RM10 for 5 cans? Its expiry date is August 2018 though. Total we have spent for all the food below was about RM100.

Kuching Festival Fair 2017 (II) 古晋美食节

Counting down to the last 3 days of Kuching Festival Fair 2017. Last night we revisited to try out the food we missed out. This time we tried Taiwan minced pork rice, Korean pork and smoked duck, and oysters pancake. Reached there around 9:30pm, some stalls we plan to try out were closed earlier.


We found out this Taiwan minced pork rice was not bad. My bro has tried it two times. Big bowl RM7, small bowl RM5. Advise to take the small bowl as you would need to try out other dishes too. My bro greedily bought the big bowl, in the end his stomach was over-bloated.




I wanted to try out the smoked duck meat. We also bought the pork meat, it was quite nice to have it with pickled cucumber. The taste could be better if it is served hot and with dipping sauce.




My bro wanted to have the lamb skewer, RM12 per piece. Average 10 pieces per skewer, a piece RM1.20. One piece even over-burnt.




This is the oyster omelette I took the video in IG. The oysters are real big, slightly bigger than my thumb size and it is juicily fresh (feel like having it raw!). BUT, the average waiting time is 45 minutes. My turn took about an hour.

We got that pandan chickent from stall 2xx (forgot the number). The vendor kept pestering us to get one set pack at RM10. It's rather small size, we asked for 3 pcs at RM4 instead. Turned out it's a wise decision because we overate. Nevertheless the taste of pandan chicken was nice actually.

The oyster omelette that took me an hour. Hmmm.... anyhow, the taste worths the wait. The only one that you won't regret to get (if you don't mind the waiting time). I reheat it for brunch, the taste was still good.




Good news! It's a bargain to get Shandy 4 cans at RM6 here. Bad news! Please be informed, you must consume it before the expiry date.




I was planning to get the peanut ice cream. When we got there, the stalls selling peanut ice cream sold out earlier than expected. Heart broken... started to crave for yogurt ice cream now. Slurp...

Kuching Festival Fair 2017 (I) 古晋美食节

Kuching Festival has came back again on 28th July, and too bad it is going to end on 20th August. Have you visited yet? I went there last week with my mum as she never been to Kuching food fair. It was raining earlier, luckily the rain stopped after 5 something. We were able to go without umbrella. We arrived there at 6:30pm. The crowd already started to build up.

This year a lot of disputes on the food variety too. Majority of the menus is from Taiwan, such as oyster mee sua 阿宗面线, squid or chicken wing with rice content 鱿鱼/鸡翅包饭, potato cheese, deep-fried chicken chop and so on. Well, Taiwan is undeniably a great source of ideas when comes to creative menus.

Total damage, below RM70 this time. Bought a pack of the longest french fries RM12, squid with rice RM15 (free one chicken wing with rice and one stick of squid arms),  4 sticks of yaki-toki (RM5 - 6 per stick),  3 cans of carbonated drinks, and coconut ice cream. My verdict, don't get the RM15 squid with rice. The taste wasn't great, too hard to chew and overpriced too. Actually nothing is cheap here. But the yaki-tori was good. And I was so tempted to get the oyster pancake too! The size of oyster is bigger than my thumb. Looks so juicy, many queued up for it.

This peanut coconut ice cream is my favourite. There are 2 or 3 stalls selling peanut coconut ice cream, taste equally the same. They spread the ground peanut on popiah skin, 3 small scoops of coconut ice cream, then wrap. Taste creamy and delicious, seriously must try.
