Breakfast @New Imbi Market, ICC Pudu, KL

Address: Jalan Kijang, Pudu, 55100 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur.
Business hours: Tuesday - Sunday 6:00am - 2:00pm; Closed on Monday

My friend drove me to ICC Pudu for breakfast before sending me off to KL Sentral. This was my first visit, but I'm sure I'll come back to explore further.

This Ah Weng Koh occupied the biggest space with prime location at ICC Pudu. I assume this must be famous and nice. However, customers are only allowed to dine within their area. No outside food and drinks allowed. Meaning to say, you can't have other food from other stalls at their space.

My friend highly recommended Ah Fook Yong TauFu CheongFun 阿福酿豆腐肠粉. She went to order the food so I asked to be seated and wait for her to bring me the food she recommended.

My friend asked me to buy this Bunn Choon egg tart home. I was keen to try the charcoal egg tart. Unfortunately, I was told by the girl that the egg tarts would only be ready at 8:30am. Too bad. I definitely will buy it next visit. I just found out Bunn Choon is also available at Petaling Street.

My friend bought Ah Fook Yong TauFu CheongFun too. Weird thing, it was not served on a plate but in a plastic bag. So I was not able to take a photo of the dish. I thought it's the soup type of yong taufu. The thing she brought to me is the dry version with thick curry gravy.

Then she also bought this nasi lemak. The taste was moderate, but the paste was rather too spicy.

My friend ordered Hainanese coffee for me and she had Teh C. The coffee was superb thick, not too sweet. We also had Hainanese toast. Honestly, Hainanese toast is not my cup of tea. I don't like to eat toast with unmelted butter.

Due to time constraint, we didn't linger long at this place. I learned this place for some time, always wanted to pay a visit. But whenever I traveled to KL, I failed to recall it. It's good to save it in my Google Map so that I know where to hunt good food next time.

Levain Boulangerie & Patisserie @Imbi, Kuala Lumpur

Address: 7, Jalan Delima, Imbi, 55100 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur
Business hours: Monday - Sunday 7:30am - 9:00pm

My friend brought me here for early dinner before sending me back to hotel. This place is located at Imbi but not within walking distance of Imbi monorail station. According to my friend, this cafe usually is tough to get a parking in the am for breakfast. We arrived at this cafe around 6:30pm, there were plenty of parking lots available.

They are famous for its breads and pastries too. My friend let me try its chocolate log bread. It's soft and tastes good too. But their cupcakes are quite disappointing, not recommended.

My cup of cappuccino.

I like their mushroom soup, very thick aroma of mushroom and flavourful.

We ordered carbonara spaghetti. Not bad too, creamy and springy noodles with loads of cheese on top.

We also ordered one of their signature, the thin crust pizza. We tried its half & half pizza. It's the combination of margherita & cream based seafood pizza. The crust was awesome. Its crunchiness didn't disappoint me. And, I superb like the sourness of margherita flavour.

Black Market Restaurant & Lounge @Kg Pandan, Kuala Lumpur

Address: No. 16, Jalan Kampung Pandan, 55000 Kuala Lumpur.
Business hours: Monday to Sunday 11:00am - 3:00pm & 5:30pm - 12:30am

I went to KL in June for a getaway trip. My friend brought me to Black Market Restaurant for late dinner in conjunction to celebrate our birthdays.

We ordered three dishes in total. Crispy Pork Bacon Caesar Salad, RM26. The crispy pork was good, the pork skin was crunchy.

The main dish, we had this "Presa & Collar" (RM69), air-flown Spanish Iberico pork neck and collar grilled to "medium" doneness. We asked for well-done instead of medium-rare. Judging from the picture in the menu, we thought it's a big portion. But when it was served, we both just smiled at each other. Glad that the taste was good though. I specifically liked the dipping sauce, tastes slightly sour. Matched well with the grilled pork slices. A set of this comes with a small bowl of salad too.

This is highlighted as the top seller in their menu, called Pull Apart Cheesy Garlic Bread (RM24). We waited quite long for this, I thought the waiter has forgotten about it. Nearly finished our two dishes before this. I quite liked this too but the size was quite big, we were barely able to finish it. My friend joked that the leftover would cost half of the price. So slowly we managed to clear it by force.

The service of this restaurant was good. The parking is expensive if you don't have the parking coupon. The parking coupons will be given to dine-in customers after payment, and it has no expiration. It's worth to visit again.

Pretty FengHuang 俏凤凰苗家牛肉粉 @Comicity 动漫星城, Guangzhou, China

Address: 广东省广州市越秀区吉祥路1号

Pretty FengHuang at Comicity has one disadvantage because of its location in the mall. Not noticeable but the food quality and taste are impressive. It's located at a level below 遇见小面. We had been strolled at Comicity for few days and passed by this shop with less diners. I just stopped to view the menu to check out their specialty. They are specialized in beef and pork menu.

I was attracted to its sour soup beef vermicelli dish. Finally the next day we decided to give it a try.

This is my favourite, 帆爷酸汤肥牛粉. One of their top 4 signature dishes. The taste was really impeccably delicious, sourness of the soup was appetizing. Ingredients were generous and colourful, had mushroom, tomato, and broccoli.

My friend had 苗家红酸汤牛肉粉, one of their signature dishes too.

The next day we came back here again for dinner. And I had this 黄酸汤肥牛粉. Full of peppery taste and hot soup, less sourness but not a bad choice as well.

Mihimihi法式旗舰店 @BeiJingLu 北京路步行街, Guangzhou, China

Address: 533, Huifu East Road, BeiJing Lu, Yuexiu Qu, Guangzhou 广州越秀区惠福东路533号
Business hours: 10:00am - 10:00pm

Ever since we discovered the most happening area in Guangzhou, BeiJing Lu 北京路. We shopped there almost everyday. This Mihimihi alone has 3 branches in this area. But this particular branch caught our attention because of the queue line.

They have three signature menus, French crispy puff, Japanese Souffle pancake, and fruits tea.

They have different flavours of French crispy puff: Original, Matcha, Strawberry, Chocolate, Durian, and Mango.

The open kitchen concept is great, customers can view the process of making souffle pancake.

We ordered the original cheese flavour of souffle pancake, RMB18.

Can't deny that they are good at branding. We tried both French crispy puff and Japanese souffle pancake. However, I am not impressed with the taste though. The cheese taste of its souffle pancake was rather bland.

I just found out from Google that Mihimihi has arrived at Sunway Velocity in Malaysia this year. But the branch in Malaysia serves only French crispy puff.

遇见小面 @Comicity 动漫星城, Guangzhou, China

Address: 广东省广州市越秀区吉祥路1号

I usually shopped at Comicity 动漫星城 in Guangzhou. The other day I found this place has the picture of noodle on the menu that caught my eyes. So we decided to try it out. It was quite full during peak hours, best to visit after lunch or dinner hours.

The service was good. You can place order using WeChat and pay by WeChat pay as well. But the sad thing is that they don't accept Alipay here.

This is the picture that caught my attention, it looks so irresistible.

The menu:

They have 14 branches in Guangzhou, 4 branches in Shenzhen.

I had the signature dish, noodles with peas and minced meat in spicy sauce. It tastes great, the texture of the noodle is springy but spicy though.

樂叔老西關名小食 @宝华路 Guangzhou, China

Address: 宝华路59号侧十五甫三巷

I went to Guangzhou again not long ago. That's the reason I was absent from my blog. Honestly speaking, visiting China during festive seasons (Mid Autumn Festival + China National Day) is really a bad idea. The MRT will be very crowded, the sightseeing places will be packed with tourists too.

I was planning to bring my friend to try out the famous fish skin dish from 陳添記 at 上下九街. I got quite stunned to see the long queues at each branch. Starved and we just randomly chose one to dine in. We got a seat at this 樂叔老西關名小食.

The congee 艇仔粥 is a must have in Guangzhou. The one we had here also not bad. And they have the fish skin dish 爽鱼皮 too. The texture is crunchy as well, no fishy smell at all. But the look might be a bit gross, it looks like snake skin to me. I got very nostalgic to see this glass bottle coke. Coca-Cola in glass bottle always tastes better than the ones in aluminium can and PVC bottle.

The fish skin dish costs RMB25 and congee RMB10. The food price in China is quite high. Generally MYR15 above, even at hawker stalls. Compared to my visit to Guangzhou two years ago, they are getting more advanced now. The cashless payment is very prevalent. All vendors are using Alipay and WeChat pay. I hope we can adapt to the change in Malaysia too. I just started to use Boost app last week.

Pudu Glutton Street Night Market 半山芭為食街 @Pudu, Kuala Lumpur

Address: Jalan Sayur, Pudu, 55100 Kuala Lumpur
Business hours: Monday - Sunday 5:00pm - 11:00pm

Visited this night market last month. Located at Pudu, we took a Grab car to get here.  We got there around 5:40pm. Many stalls were still closed. We planned to try out the Tai Bu Mee, unfortunately it was not open that day.

This fried chicken 四眼仔炸鸡 stall is famous. We bought chicken wings, chicken feet and bishop nose to try.

We were disappointed with its taste. Probably it had turned cold when served? Nothing to brag about. We have much decent fried chicken wings than this in Kuching.

This porridge was really plain. Not tasty and zero impression. Not worth to pay for.

Apam balik is also in our pocket list. The stall owner was just arrived to start business when we were having our fried chicken and porridge. My friend asked me, one piece at RM1.50, is it the whole big piece or cut into small piece. In Kuching, you can get RM3 for the whole big piece. I thought my friend brought me the news that the whole piece only RM1.50.  We both were excitedly waiting for this. And soon we got disappointed when the small piece was handed to us. The taste wise, we were really disappointed. The apam balik was not aromatic, plain and tasteless because no margarine was used.  It may be the healthier version of apam balik but seriously...  apam balik without Planta margarine, will that entice you buy?

I would like to try out the Tai Bu Mee next time. It looks like Kuching kolo mee, with char siew and minced meat on top. Another one which I would be interested to try is the sup kambing (mutton soup).
