Business hours: Monday - Sunday 11:30AM – 2:00PM, 6:15PM – 10:00PM

It has come to the end of 2020. Decided to update my blog for the last entry of 2020. I do not know if I want to continue to update this blog in 2021 since blogging is no longer popular in this era. I do have the plan to vlog, however, no further action yet. Due to COVID-19, we restricted to dine out so I have no materials to update my blog.

Last Tuesday, I went to Rock Road Seafood Restaurant for the first time with my family. Yes, it's my first time been here. Rock Road Seafood Restaurant is long established and famous for seafood in Kuching. I didn't have a chance to come here because it's expensive for me. And this time, it was my relative's treat. I can only show you the dishes we had. If not mistaken, the bill was about RM1,450 for 12 pax, inclusive of tax and service charge.

Prawns in Special Sauce (Hainanese Style) & Buns

Sea Cucumber Soup

Stir-fried Midin

Steamed Oysters with Garlic Ginger with Vermicelli

Braised beancurd with mushroom and vege

Cantonese Style Steamed Fish

Fried Crabs with Salted Egg Pumpkin Paste

Overall the food is very nice and the seafood tasted fresh. The waiting time was considerably short despite a birthday event was hosted there. And I have to say that their customer service is very impressive, from parking to table service, it's impeccable. It's worth to pay a visit if you are into seafood.

Sushi Jiro @Vivacity Megamall, Kuching

Address: Lot L3-027 & Lot L3-028, Level 3, Vivacity Megamall, Q112B, 93350 Kuching, Sarawak

Visited Sushi Jiro at Vivacity Megamall in August. I was thinking if I should blog it since it's not really worth to waste my time and effort to write this entry. I have not update my blog for the entire month of October. Occupied with new house settlement and I rarely dine at new restaurant.

Get back to the topic. Sushi Jiro has a good marketing strategy, unless otherwise stated, most of its menu is priced at RM2.99 per plate. Service charge and 6% service tax are not included. The variety of the food was good, taste wise.. acceptable. It's budget meal, so what you pay is what you get.

I used to boycott Sushi King because I had the chicken katsu don with just three skinny chicken stripes and deep-fried it with generous batter to make it looks huge on the bowl. I also have the same impression on Sushi Jiro. But RM2.99 per plate, you can't really complain about the quality.

I had this spicy tori don, RM11.90. The actual product is different from the picture on the menu.

Total billed RM79.35.

After tried Sushi Jiro, I did visit Sushi King on and off. A a comparison, I think the material used by Sushi King's is fresher. However, Sushi Jiro's price is cheaper though.

Teo Seafood 張海鮮廳 @Jalan Kampung Buntal, Santubong, Kuching

Address: 787, Jalan Kampung Buntal, 93010 Kuching, Sarawak
Business hours: Monday 5:30-9:30pm, Tuesday - Sunday 10:30am – 2pm, 3:30pm – 9:30pm

I brought my parents to Damai on the third day of Raya last month. After a long drive, we came here for lunch. As I have introduced Buntal 88 Seafood Centre before, this time I chose to dine at Teo Seafood. Next time I will try out the other two restaurants along the same road.

I have been to Teo Seafood before too. The service was good, and food serving time was quite fast too. The environment is breezy, quite a relaxed place for lunch and dinner.

Due to Raya holidays, the choices in the menus were limited. No clams, no fresh coconut. I ordered steamed prawns, sea cucumber soup, fried kangkong, curry bamboo clams, Teochew-style steamed fish.

The seafood was all fresh and I like every dish they served, especially the steamed prawns. It's my personal liking to eat prawns with plain taste. I don't like to eat prawns with flavours like salted eggs, butter style, etc. Steamed prawns with a dipping sauce like belacan or chili sauce are the best match to go with rice.

This is the small portion of sea cucumber soup. We have 3 pax, this portion is more than sufficient. The soup texture is thick, very flavourful.

Stir-fried kangkong with garlic. A vegetable dish is a must. At some restaurants, the kangkong would turn black after cooked, theirs was still greeny.

Curry bamboo clams. They have removed the clam shells for you. Very thoughtful.

My parents like to eat fish. The fish meat was smooth and tender. Taste sour because it's Teochew style, the broth goes well with rice too.

After lunch, brought my parents to Damai Central for a walk. It was my first visit too. Not much of attraction and the building is not well-maintained as well.

Jay Chou's 粮全其美 LIANG Sandwich bar @The Spring Shopping Mall, Kuching

Address: Lot No. B04, Basement Floor, The Spring Shopping Mall, 93300 Kuching, Sarawak.
Business hours: 10AM - 10PM

Have you tried LIANG Sandwich Bar yet? It has newly opened this end of April at The Spring Shopping Mall in Kuching. I had no clue about it until my sister-in-law asked for it. I used to be a fan of Jay Chou donkey years ago, his first two albums were my favourite. Now I seldom get up-to-date about his new albums nor news.

Back to the topic, its so-called sandwich is made of what we have best known as "Roti Canai" and combined the recipe with Taiwan's scallion pancake. Interestingly, they make it a sandwich with different types of ingredients such as satay chicken, sambal ikan bilis, black pepper chicken, mushroom & egg, cheese & egg, etc.

They have two best sellers: Satay Chicken Sandwich and LIANG Chicken Sandwich.

I had LIANG Chicken Sandwich, RM10.90.

The pancake is crispy, tastes good which is out of my surprise. I didn't hold any expectation beforehand.

The portion of its ingredients is acceptable for the price you paid (RM10.90). Contained egg, smoked chicken breast meat, lettuce, and hoisin sauce.

Despite its good taste, I still deem it's slightly overpriced. I have the hesitation to order its add-on, a slice of cheese RM3, an egg RM3, a chicken patty RM6.

Himawari Ramen Bar @Padungan, Kuching

Address: 179, Jalan Padungan, 93100 Kuching, Sarawak
Business hours: Thursday - Tuesday 9:00am - 3:00pm (Closed on Wednesday)

Some time ago I drove passed Padungan road, noticed this unimposing shop with the unattractive banner. But the two words "RAMEN BAR" caught my eye. There is no big signboard but it definitely has caught a lot of attention.

Weeks ago, I finally recalled this place and made my first visit there.

It's not air-conditioned, equipped with an open kitchen. The owner was really welcoming and friendly.

Nam Manglak (RM3.90)

Organic Apple Cider Vinegar Lime Mohito (RM4.90), very refreshing drinks.

Steamed Rice Water Cake / Chwee Kueh (RM1.10 per piece)

Rich Creamy Tori Paitan Ramen (RM16.90), also called "chickens in the garden".  The chicken boxing wings are very flavourful.

Gyuniku Shoyu Ramen Hikari (RM10.90), the owner used Australian beef. The meat is very tender, chewy noodles, and thick broth.

Gyuniku Aruba Soba Hikari (RM12.90), the dry version of Gyuniku Shoyu Ramen Hikari. The chili sauce is hot, very shiok.
