Breakfast @New Imbi Market, ICC Pudu, KL

Address: Jalan Kijang, Pudu, 55100 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur.
Business hours: Tuesday - Sunday 6:00am - 2:00pm; Closed on Monday

My friend drove me to ICC Pudu for breakfast before sending me off to KL Sentral. This was my first visit, but I'm sure I'll come back to explore further.

This Ah Weng Koh occupied the biggest space with prime location at ICC Pudu. I assume this must be famous and nice. However, customers are only allowed to dine within their area. No outside food and drinks allowed. Meaning to say, you can't have other food from other stalls at their space.

My friend highly recommended Ah Fook Yong TauFu CheongFun 阿福酿豆腐肠粉. She went to order the food so I asked to be seated and wait for her to bring me the food she recommended.

My friend asked me to buy this Bunn Choon egg tart home. I was keen to try the charcoal egg tart. Unfortunately, I was told by the girl that the egg tarts would only be ready at 8:30am. Too bad. I definitely will buy it next visit. I just found out Bunn Choon is also available at Petaling Street.

My friend bought Ah Fook Yong TauFu CheongFun too. Weird thing, it was not served on a plate but in a plastic bag. So I was not able to take a photo of the dish. I thought it's the soup type of yong taufu. The thing she brought to me is the dry version with thick curry gravy.

Then she also bought this nasi lemak. The taste was moderate, but the paste was rather too spicy.

My friend ordered Hainanese coffee for me and she had Teh C. The coffee was superb thick, not too sweet. We also had Hainanese toast. Honestly, Hainanese toast is not my cup of tea. I don't like to eat toast with unmelted butter.

Due to time constraint, we didn't linger long at this place. I learned this place for some time, always wanted to pay a visit. But whenever I traveled to KL, I failed to recall it. It's good to save it in my Google Map so that I know where to hunt good food next time.

Levain Boulangerie & Patisserie @Imbi, Kuala Lumpur

Address: 7, Jalan Delima, Imbi, 55100 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur
Business hours: Monday - Sunday 7:30am - 9:00pm

My friend brought me here for early dinner before sending me back to hotel. This place is located at Imbi but not within walking distance of Imbi monorail station. According to my friend, this cafe usually is tough to get a parking in the am for breakfast. We arrived at this cafe around 6:30pm, there were plenty of parking lots available.

They are famous for its breads and pastries too. My friend let me try its chocolate log bread. It's soft and tastes good too. But their cupcakes are quite disappointing, not recommended.

My cup of cappuccino.

I like their mushroom soup, very thick aroma of mushroom and flavourful.

We ordered carbonara spaghetti. Not bad too, creamy and springy noodles with loads of cheese on top.

We also ordered one of their signature, the thin crust pizza. We tried its half & half pizza. It's the combination of margherita & cream based seafood pizza. The crust was awesome. Its crunchiness didn't disappoint me. And, I superb like the sourness of margherita flavour.

Black Market Restaurant & Lounge @Kg Pandan, Kuala Lumpur

Address: No. 16, Jalan Kampung Pandan, 55000 Kuala Lumpur.
Business hours: Monday to Sunday 11:00am - 3:00pm & 5:30pm - 12:30am

I went to KL in June for a getaway trip. My friend brought me to Black Market Restaurant for late dinner in conjunction to celebrate our birthdays.

We ordered three dishes in total. Crispy Pork Bacon Caesar Salad, RM26. The crispy pork was good, the pork skin was crunchy.

The main dish, we had this "Presa & Collar" (RM69), air-flown Spanish Iberico pork neck and collar grilled to "medium" doneness. We asked for well-done instead of medium-rare. Judging from the picture in the menu, we thought it's a big portion. But when it was served, we both just smiled at each other. Glad that the taste was good though. I specifically liked the dipping sauce, tastes slightly sour. Matched well with the grilled pork slices. A set of this comes with a small bowl of salad too.

This is highlighted as the top seller in their menu, called Pull Apart Cheesy Garlic Bread (RM24). We waited quite long for this, I thought the waiter has forgotten about it. Nearly finished our two dishes before this. I quite liked this too but the size was quite big, we were barely able to finish it. My friend joked that the leftover would cost half of the price. So slowly we managed to clear it by force.

The service of this restaurant was good. The parking is expensive if you don't have the parking coupon. The parking coupons will be given to dine-in customers after payment, and it has no expiration. It's worth to visit again.

Pudu Glutton Street Night Market 半山芭為食街 @Pudu, Kuala Lumpur

Address: Jalan Sayur, Pudu, 55100 Kuala Lumpur
Business hours: Monday - Sunday 5:00pm - 11:00pm

Visited this night market last month. Located at Pudu, we took a Grab car to get here.  We got there around 5:40pm. Many stalls were still closed. We planned to try out the Tai Bu Mee, unfortunately it was not open that day.

This fried chicken 四眼仔炸鸡 stall is famous. We bought chicken wings, chicken feet and bishop nose to try.

We were disappointed with its taste. Probably it had turned cold when served? Nothing to brag about. We have much decent fried chicken wings than this in Kuching.

This porridge was really plain. Not tasty and zero impression. Not worth to pay for.

Apam balik is also in our pocket list. The stall owner was just arrived to start business when we were having our fried chicken and porridge. My friend asked me, one piece at RM1.50, is it the whole big piece or cut into small piece. In Kuching, you can get RM3 for the whole big piece. I thought my friend brought me the news that the whole piece only RM1.50.  We both were excitedly waiting for this. And soon we got disappointed when the small piece was handed to us. The taste wise, we were really disappointed. The apam balik was not aromatic, plain and tasteless because no margarine was used.  It may be the healthier version of apam balik but seriously...  apam balik without Planta margarine, will that entice you buy?

I would like to try out the Tai Bu Mee next time. It looks like Kuching kolo mee, with char siew and minced meat on top. Another one which I would be interested to try is the sup kambing (mutton soup).

Kin Kin Chilli Pan Mee 建記辣椒板麵 @Lot 10 Hutong 十號胡同, Kuala Lumpur

Recent trip to KL, I brought my friend to try out my favourite food in KL, Kin Kin Chili Pan Mee at Chow Kit. Obviously she enjoyed it as well.

If you are lazy to mobilise, tell you a good news. It's available at Lot 10 Hutong now. I have no idea when they set up at stall here. I accidentally found it when I entered the food court through the other entrance which I hardly used.

Lot 10 Hutong is like a maze. This section which Kin Kin Chilli Pan Mee located is quite hidden.

The stall is manned by foreign workers without the owner's supervision. So the quality is different from the main branch. The noodle and the soup were not steamily hot. I still prefer the noodle texture by the main branch.

Penang Nasi Kandar @Restoran Kudu Bin Abdul, Chow Kit, KL

Address: 335, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Chow Kit, 50100 Kuala Lumpur
Business Hours: 7:30am - 8:00pm (Monday - Friday); 7:30am - 7:30pm (Saturday - Sunday)

Restoran Kudu Bin Abdul is adjacent to Restoran Kin Kin, the famous chilli pan mee. Every time I passed by this place after chilli pan mee, never failed to see the long queue outside. Trust it must be good since the people are willing to queue under the hot sun.

Weeks ago, my mum and I had a getaway to KL. Wanted to bring her to Restoran Kin Kin for breakfast, then try out this nasi kandar after chilli pan mee. We reached there quite late, almost 11am. Decided to have the nasi kandar first since the queue was still short, about 8 pax in front of us. Though short, it took 10 minutes too for our turn. There was two ladies in front "tapau" two big bags. Each customer may have different request, and the vendor is patient enough to fulfil each request.

The menu price list is here.

Everyone is patiently waiting for their turn.

The variety of meat and seafood to choose from:

My mum's plate, ayam merah, pickled cucumber and lady fingers. The choice of veges was limited, only these two were available on the day.

My plate. I asked for fried chicken drumstick, pickled cucumber and boiled lady fingers. Requested the vendor to top the rice with curry sauce. The portion was really generous, I could hardly finish all. And the plate of this only cost RM7.50. Cheap and tasty. After emptying this plate, we cancelled our mind to proceed to Restoran Kin Kin.

The queue started to get longer after 11am. Only one person to serve customers and collect payment. Hope the efficiency can be improved.

MAISON de gigi @Bukit Bintang, KL

Location: Outside Fahrenheit 88 mall, next to the money changer.

Have you tried the waffle from MAISON de gigi yet? Can you imagine the combination of croissant and waffle? I tell you, it was real good. I found this when I was on the way to Pavilion from Lot 10. It's located outside Fahrenheit 88. The picture of waffle on the fishtail banner caught my attention. First thought it was from Korea. But I was wrong, it's actually from Osaka, Japan. The texture surprised me, the outer is crispy like croissant and inner is soft like waffle. They called it croffle.

You can choose salty or sweet version of croffle. I didn't expect it tastes so good, so I didn't take a close-up picture of their menus. The sweet menu has banana chocolate, apple cinnamon, red bean, chocolate nut. The salty menu has curry chicken, sausage and corn, mash potato and chicken, chicken pepperoni and cheese. I asked the staff which is their favourite, they recommended me the banana chocolate. The slogan on the wall stated "every layer has a happy story", I have to agree that every layer surprised me to the end.

The packing is quite cute actually.. But I'm curious why a black cat logo?

Best to have it while it's still hot. Can't notice the layers of croissant right? It looks like the normal waffle.

No regret to choose the banana and chocolate fillings. It was crunchy and the thick aroma of banana mash and melted chocolate just filled in my mouth completely. Ok, I would want to try the apple cinnamon next time!

Other than Auntie Anne's pretzels, this is another one that I would want to have in KL on my next and following visit. Hope MAISON de gigi will consider to open an outlet at KLIA2, I can buy and share with family too.

Lot 10 Hutong Food Court 十號胡同 @Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur

Address: Lot 10 Shopping Centre, Food Court, Lower Ground Floor, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Wilayah Persekutuan, 50250 Kuala Lumpur
Business Hour: Open daily from 10:00AM - 10:00PM

If you are a tourist, staying at Bukit Bintang area. Hunting food for breakfast, lunch or dinner nearby, I would recommend you to try Lot 10 Hutong Food Court. Please be reminded it's classified non-halal.

Usually I would opt here if I don't want to walk far as this place gathered all the popular local dishes from heritage brands and the price is reasonable too. The vendors here were carefully selected and the quality is well-maintained. The variety is wide, you can have Hokkien mee from Kim Lian Kee, pork ball noodle from the famous Imbi Road Original Pork Noodle, claypot chicken rice from Zhun Kee, wanton noodle from Ho Weng Kee, Klang bak ku teh from Pin Qian, beef noodle from Song Kee, roast duck rice from Roast Duckking, dim sum, Penang fried kueh tiaw, etc.

I just got to know from their FB page that my favourite Kin Kin Chilli Pan Mee just moved in last year too. Didn't notice it on my last visit. Next time I don't have to travel far to have chilli pan mee again. Hopefully the taste is identical to the original one at Chow Kit branch.

The stalls here are generally operated by their workers. When the food served, you know they were just processed your order systematically. This is the bak ku teh ordered by my friend. I didn't taste it, I ever tried it long time ago but the soup was not as dark as this. My friend commented the taste was not bad actually. Well, I am not a fan of bak ku teh. But on rare occasion I would crave for it.

I chose to have roast pork rice instead. Slightly disappointed, maybe it is because the plate looks huge causing the portion looks pathetically little.

My another favourite food court in Bukit Bintang is Food Republic at Pavilion. Different of choices as compared to Lot 10 Hutong but usually I would go there for breakfast as I can have nice coffee with kaya toast at Toast Box.

Kurtos Spiroll @ Pavilion KL

Location: Pavilion Food Court, Kuala Lumpur

A year ago I found something new at Pavilion food court. It is the type of pastries I ever had in Prague. I missed it so much! It is called Trdlo / Trdelnik, traditional Slovak cake. Can't believe I found it in Malaysia.

The menu board. Many choices to choose. It is safe to ask them for recommendation. But I believe all tastes as nice. The guy recommended us to have the Nutella Walnut and Spirall Dog.

The best sellers, Nutella Walnut, Cinnamon Sugar, Peanut Butter n Choc Chips, Spiroll Dog, Smoked Salmon, and Chicken, Olive & Cheese.

The process of making kurtos kalacs is open for public to view.

The Nutella Walnut. The combination of nutella and walnut is impeccable. Who can resist not to have it?

The Spiroll Dog. Not bad actually..

This is the shop I bought the trdlo from in Prague. The cheapest food I could get in Prague. 50Kč is roughly about 2 Euro dollar.

The trdlo I had 5 years ago. It is coated with sugar only but tastes real good.

Every time I visit KL, I never skipped Auntie Anne's pretzel. Almost every visit to KLCC, I'll queue up for pretzel. And this kurtos kalacs is inside my favourite list too after my first trial. Too bad the kitchen wasn't ready on my second visit in June this year. I guess I went early around 10am and the cashier asked me to come back in a hour time. Oh well, still got chance. Hope they will open more branches in KL soon. It would be good to have it at KLIA2.
