Pablo Cheesetart @One Utama, Selangor

Address: S130, 2nd Floor, Old Wing, One Utama Shopping Mall, Bandar Utama, 40150 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
Business hours: 10am - 10pm daily

The first time I had Pablo cheesetart was exactly 5 years ago in Osaka. The post is here. I was thrilled to know that it's available in Malaysia now. This was one of the reasons I came to 1U for. Aimed to have the big size of cheese tart, not the palm-size mini tart. I was worried my mum would stop me to have it because of its price, RM4X++. But surprisingly she gave me green light to buy.

I decided to have it immediately even though we just had our lunch few minutes ago. The staff was friendly and helpful. Provided me the paper trays and extra napkins.

Other than the cheese tart, I also bought the Mango smoothie.

The staff even gave me two packs of Pablo cookies. Nice! We love both flavours. Matcha flavour has really heavy matcha and milk aroma, not oversweet. It is a good idea if you want to get a box of this for your friend or relatives on special occasion.

The texture of the cheese tart. Had the first bite of it, found out it is slightly different from the one I had in Osaka. The cheese tart is not as firm, and the cheese aroma is not as intense also. Comparing both, this one is more light and 'fruity'. I won't say that it is a bad thing. I will get detest fast if the taste of cheese is too overwhelming. I like both, but the cheese tart in Osaka has crispier tart crust even though I consumed it late in the evening. Oh well, guess it is due to the different climate? I finished 3/4 of it on the spot, my mum had the 1/4. That's how good taste it is. No guilt, only satisfaction.

ABC Stall No. 11 @Pending Seafood Centre, Kuching

Location: Lorong Simen Raya 2, Pending Industrial Estate, 93450 Kuching (Pending Seafood Centre)

I never know there's a ABC (ais batu campur) stall here at Pending Seafood Centre until a friend mentioned its ice kacang taste good like no other in Kuching. The journey to Pending Seafood Centre is quite a distant from my house, so I rarely go there. But in fact this place is another good choice for seafood other than Top Spot Food Court in Kuching. Somehow I reckon their seafood is much fresher than at Top Spot Food Court because the fisherman's wharf is just nearby.

The ABC stall is a bit worn-out, 2 - 3 tables in front of the shop. Majority of the customers came for take-away and their take-away portion was really big, like a family consumption size. I can imagine how happy their kids will be when their father brought it home.

Their menus are wrapped with plastic bag that blurred out the wording. Other than ABC, they have rojak too.

The ABC. I can't remember I ordered ABC or special, but I remember there was no cendol inside. Overall it tastes equally good as Swee Kang's. But the shaved ice is slightly coarse.

This is the stall with no name nor signboard. Only their regular customers know its existence.

At the entrance, Boon Seng Seafood Industries is on your right hand side.

Map to Pending Seafood Centre.

I don't know their business hour. Will try to make a second visit and update this blog entry in the future.

Young Su's Ice-Cream @Jalan Song, Kuching (CLOSED)

Address: SL 11414, PL54, Jalan Song, Tabuan Heights, 93350 Kuching, Sarawak
Business Hours: Monday 12:00pm - 5:00pm; Tuesday - Sunday 12:00pm - 9:00pm

Young Su's ice cream has been existing for long time. The owner is a Korean. The ice cream ingredients are shipped from Korea too. It used to be a happening place to hang out for youngsters. Nice yogurt ice cream with free toppings. I was not into ice cream until recently I started to have the crave for it.

There is one time I went there with my friend when the owner was preparing to close shop.  I should say he is not a friendly but that's his unique personality. He was not pleased at first. Nevertheless I still got my ice cream and savoured the ice cream every spoon. I told my friend the Korean owner is a weirdo. Though felt rather offended... as long as the ice cream is good, I forgive him for being unfriendly. Haa..

It used to have different sizes. Now only one size available, you can choose the flavour of ice cream from the list. I personally like yogurt + green tea flavour. Haven't have the gut to try the cheese flavour.

Free toppings. You can use the scoop as much as you like. The owner is pretty generous on this.

My yogurt + green tea ice cream with all the toppings. Gosh... tastes real good and refreshing. I like the sourness and the crunchy toppings. Super love the combination.

I told my friend, I have the sudden crave for Young Su's ice cream nowadays. It has the magic to lure me from time to time. Slurp..

Open Air Market Ais Krim Bergula Apong, Kuching

Location: Open Air Market, Jalan Power, 93200 Kuching

The NTV7 crew member told me this gula apong ice cream is famous in Kuching and the queue is always super long. I was puzzled as I didn't know its existence until he told me about it. Well, I am not a fan of gula apong. I don't have sweet tooth actually. Once in a while, I'll have the ice cream crave.

I visited 2 times, failed to get it. First time, it stated business hours 1PM-5AM. But I got there after 1PM, the stall was still closed. Second time, passed by and wanted to get it. I gave up after I saw the queue. The third time, we had dinner at open air. I went there quick to check out the queue. Luckily it wasn't too long.

They have 3 types of toppings: Peanut, Cornflakes, and Famous Amos Cookies.

The menu: Small cup RM2.20, Medium bowl RM4.80, Big bowl RM8.50, Bun RM2.50. They have 3 flavours of ice cream base, if not mistaken: Vanilla, chocolate, pandan.

Ok. Only one ice cream machine. Guess it is one of the reasons causing the long wait.

The taste of ice cream is good. It is not the creamy and milky type compared to Sunny Hills ice cream. The taste of gula apong is not overly strong, it's acceptable to me. Its texture actually reminds me of the ice cream I had in childhood. If you are a fan of creamy ice cream, you might be disappointed to have it.

Recently I fell for Young Su's Korean ice cream. Have the crave from time to time.. Will introduce it in the next post. Stay tuned!

Pisang Goreng (Banana Fritter), Stall No. 14 @ Song Kheng Hai

Location: Pandungan, Jalan Song Kheng Hai, 93100 Kuching, Sarawak
Business Hours: Open daily except Chinese New Year Holidays, 11:30am - 6:30pm

Quite sometime ago, I discovered something new at Song Kheng Hai. And, I am getting addicted to it. The "pisang goreng", banana fritter. I know it may seems unexciting to some of you as you cannot expect how special the pisang goreng can be right.. The stall no. 14 is nearby the stall selling the famous gongpia at Song Kheng Hai. No name is given. No menu nor food photo is displayed.  I normally walked pass without giving notice of it.

One day, went there to 'tabao' (takeaway) food for early dinner. Had a glance at the cardboard attached, written "芝麻香蕉糕“translation: sesame banana fritter. Decided to give it a try. Since then, I kept going back there for more.

I bought RM3, RM1 is roughly 4-5 pieces. Taukenio is very generous, she always put in extra pieces. I cannot tell you how delicious it is. You got to try it yourself. I will drool whenever I think of its taste.. The aroma of sesame and the crispiness of the batter after deep dried, really syiok to max. The ripeness of the banana is just right (unlike some vendors used unripe banana which tastes starchy). Even it turns cold, the good taste is still maintained.

They sell also breadfruit fritter. But the banana fritter is still the best. I bought RM3 of banana fritter and RM1 of breadfruit fritter two days ago. I finished RM2 of banana fritter alone. Each bite, I kept amazed at how good taste it is.

I strongly recommend you to try it out. Let me know if you like it too ok.

Chong Chon Biscuit Maker 长春饼店, Kuching

Location: 6, Kai Joo Lane, Kuching, 93000 Kuching, Sarawak
Tel: 082-248621

Chong Chon Biscuit Maker is another famous siew pao shop in Kuching, and its location is just opposite Tong Kee. They sell siew pao, curry puff, yam puff and egg tart. I bought siew pao, curry puff and yam puff, except egg tart.

Every pastry is guaranteed freshly made everyday.

Can you see the price list? Siew pau RM2.00, curry puff RM2.00, yam puff RM2.00, century pie RM2.50, egg tart RM1.70. I have not try their century pie yet. The taste must be very unique. Found one blogger mentioned it, customer has to call to order the century pie a day before and pick up the next day.

Top is yam puff, left is siew pao and right is curry puff.

The filling of siew pao. It is yummy. When I brought the bag of these pastries into my car, the whole car filled with the aroma. Smells so 'tasty' already, the taste for sure won't be disappointing.

The yam puff. I like yam puff more than siew pao. Not sure about you?

Don't miss out their curry puff too! Looking at the pictures of this, already making me drooled. Gosh.. The smell of the pastries still linger in my mind until today.

If you want to try their century pie, please call 082-248621 to order. Some of you might wonder what is century egg right... Click here to see how it looks like.

Pineapple Tarts @ Cheak Hng 一园

Location: No. 21, Kai Joo Lane, 93000 Kuching, Sarawak (within Indian Street area).

I ever saw a newspaper article introducing the pineapple tart of Cheak Hng. And what's so special about their pineapple tart? Its mini size caught my attention. The other day I purposely went to Kai Joo Lane for some siew pao and yam puff, found Cheak Hng is just a few steps from the famous siew pao shops. Decided to get a pack of it to try.

This is it. A pack of this costs RM10 (not sure if they have increased the price yet). The mini size of pineapple tart is really "cute". It is smaller than the teaspoon. Although the appearance looks appealingly cute, but the pineapple filling is rather too hard for me to chew. If you are malt sugar lover, you might like this pineapple tart.

Abee Traditional Buns 传统包, Kuching

Location: Jalan Padungan, just a few shops away from Noodle Descendents.

Almost everyday I drove on Padungan Road, and quite sometime ago this Abee Traditional Buns caught my attention. The signboard is simple and clear with three Chinese words: 传统包 which means traditional buns. I had been wondering what are type of buns they are selling. One fine day, my friend shared with us the char siu bun she bought from there. It tastes really good, different from the Hong Kong Puff Co.'s char siu bun. The skin layer is not as "shinning" but matte finish. The filling has generous portion, and guess what.. it is only RM1.70. Since then I have been patronized for countless times. It is worth to give a try and I assure you no regret!

Not only char siu bun, they have also wholemeal bun, coconut bun, hot dog bun. Oh yeah, they also have steamed buns. I haven't have chance to try their steamed bun yet. Probably next time..

Just last week I discovered they have something new, garlic bun. Wow, the size is a lot bigger than my fist size. Fluffy soft and tastes nice too. The bun on the left was torn by my friend as she just wanted to try the taste of it.

Location: Jalan Rumbia off Jalan Pandungan Utara, Kuching, Sarawak.
Business hours: Mon-Sat: 5:45 am - 6:00 pm; Sun: 5:45 am - 2:00 pm

When I worked at Petanak area, everyday I would pass by Hi-Bread Kopitiam. At initial stage, there were not many patrons. Later their business slowly picking up. Now there have many patrons visiting every early morning. Parents bring their kids there for breakfast before school. And, their pricing is notably reasonable.

The breakfast set looks very appealing. It is important to start your morning with healthy breakfast.

Egg Mayonnaise Sandwich, my favourite. The portion of egg mayo is so generous.

Beef Salami Sandwich. I like this one as well.

There still have different menus which you might be interested to try. Not only sandwich, they also sell assorted pastries, e.g. custard bun, raisin bun, ham roll, red bean bun, etc.

* Hi-Bread Kopitiam also has another branch at Pending (adjacent to Pending Post Office).

Best Sandwich in Town @ Munch Cafe, Kuching

Address: 179, Jalan Song Thian Cheok, Kuching, Sarawak.
Business hours: 6:30 am - 3:00 pm (Monday - Saturday)

Munch started business in 2012. My friend recommended their sandwich, especially the ciabatta sandwich. During lunch hours, the cafe is usually fully occupied. Not only sandwich, they also have noodles with meat balls / fish balls, snacks, and desserts like bubur cha cha, fresh mango ice and etc.

The menus, which attracts you most? Chinese or Western?

Here comes my favourite, Ciabatta Sandwich with Egg Mayo & Vegetables

Ciabatta Sandwich with Tuna Mayo & Vegetables

Bagel Sandwich with Smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese.

I would like to try their Baguette Sandwich next time. But..  I'm still thinking to have Ciabatta again. The bread is so chewy and soft in the center and crispy outside. Yum yum.. picturing it, already mouth watering.
