Alfred Laksa, Sung Heng Cafe 嵩興茶室 @Jalan Sungai Sarawak, Kuching

Address: Ground floor, Lot 93, Section 63, Lorong 5B KTLD, Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim, 93100 Kuching, Sarawak.
Business hours: Monday - Saturday 6:30am - 2:00pm (Sunday off)

Last week visited this Sung Heng Cafe to try out the laksa. This coffee shop is located somewhere behind Hock Lee Centre, next to Wisma Mahmud. There is also Muslim fast food inside this cafe.

I ordered a small bowl of laksa, RM6. It has 3 small prawns, shredded chicken, shredded egg, rice vermicelli, and garnished with coriander sprigs. The sambal was good and the prawns were fresh. I like they removed the gut thoroughly. But the portion is really small.

Just got to know that the kolo mee there is worth to try too. Should have another visit again next time.

Signature Madam Tang's Cafe @Brighton Square, Kuching

Address: 2E, Brighton Square, Jalan Song, 93350 Kuching, Sarawak
Business hours: Monday - Sunday 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM

I have been missing from my blog for some time after I run a shop. Did not have time to explore new place to dine. Don't really have time to update my blog. This Madam Tang's cafe I visited was weeks ago. It was in our consideration to dine-in because it's air-conditioned. Madam Tang started their business root at Petanak. It's not airconditioned like their branch at Brighton Square. Many years back, I tried their signature beef noodle at Petanak but I found it rather salty.

I am not sure if they have the same menu and pricing as the Petanak branch. It seems like Signature Madam Tang's Cafe at Brighton Square is more "classy". I browsed through the menu, found the price was much higher than my expectation. Oh, they even have lobster laksa.

The signature Sarawak laksa RM9.50 (take note that the price indicated has not include the service charge).

Claypot Rendang Chicken Rice  RM10.90

Mee Siam Special RM10.90

Chicken Teriyaki Rice RM11.90

Beef Kway Teow RM10.90

Taste wise, just average. It's expected because it's pretty much like SOP recipe. Another credit is that the portion is quite big. But I personally would not revisit unless certain circumstances.

Sarawak Laksa @Jia Yan Cafe 佳燕美食坊, Jln Simpang Tiga, Kuching

Location: Jalan Simpang Tiga, Kampung Kenyalang Park, 93300 Kuching, Sarawak (Opposite The Spring Shopping Mall, behind ST3)

The other day I overheard someone commented that the laksa at Jia Yan Cafe is the best laksa in Kuching. That really made me curious, so I made a visit on purpose.

The mentioned laksa stall. There's a typo here: Your "Preffered" Laksa. Small bowl RM5, big bowl RM6, special RM8.

I ordered a small bowl of laksa. The taste was quite good actually, slightly salty. The shrimps were fresh and the portion was acceptable for the price of RM5.

The next visit, I ordered black vinegar kolo mee from the kolo mee stall. The texture is not to my liking. The seasonings was not evenly mixed, and the taste was rather bland. However, my mum commented that their kampua was nice.

There's a stall selling variety of sandwiches too. Unfortunately they don't have the traditional toast.

The coffee shop was formerly known as Top One Food Court. The map of Jia Yan Cafe:

Mom's Laksa @ Rojak Muhammad Kucei Kafe @Jalan Petanak, Kuching

Address: Ground Floor S/L 13 Lot 95 & 96, Jalan Petanak, 93450 Kuching, Sarawak.
Business Hours: Monday - Sunday 7:00am - 5:00pm

Happy Chinese New Year, everyone! Today's the first day of CNY, any good place for breakfast or lunch? Majority of coffeeshops and restaurants will take the first and second day of CNY off. If you are craving for Sarawak laksa, Mom's Laksa & Rojak Muhammad Kucei Kafe can be another good option.

I got to know Mom's Laksa from my Malay friend. When I asked her where's the best laksa in Kuching, she recommended Mom's Laksa. A Malay version of Sarawak laksa. It has a few branches in Kuching, and the branch I visited is located opposite Hi-Bread Kopitiam. Besides Sarawak Laksa, there also served the famous Indian rojak, Rojak Muhammad Kucei too.

Ordered Air Bandung this time. Hadn't had it for long time.

A small plate of Rojak Ayam, RM6. I like the long bean fritters the most, but the gravy was slightly watery.

A big bowl of laksa, RM8.

A small bowl of laksa, RM6.

The laksa broth is thicker compared to the other laksa (by Chinese) in Kuching. The coconut milk is heavier in taste, and slightly sweet too. My bro finished it all till the last drop. It was quite good actually, but the shrimps were not as fresh.

Uncle Ben's Signature Laksa House @RH Plaza, Kuching

Address: No. 83, Lot 9927, RH Plaza, Jalan Lapangan Terbang 1, Kuching, Sarawak.
Business Hours: 7:00am - 5:00pm (Thursday off)

Though I am not a fan of laksa. But when I saw a friend posted a picture of laksa she had in Facebook, it made me drooled. Last Tuesday finally made the move to visit this place for brunch with my bro and future sister-in-law. We spent quite sometime to locate it because friend mentioned it is behind Bella Italia (an Italian restaurant), opposite Swan Teem Seafood Restaurant. In fact, you won't able to spot it from road side because the location is quite hidden. The search is quite difficult because it is blocked by the canopies. If you have been to Hornbill Steamboat at RH Plaza, the laksa house is just right opposite it. This shop is used to be a conveyor belt sushi restaurant, so you can notice there is a conveyor belt in the middle.

The environment is very hygienic. They don't serve pork (but no halal certification) so you can introduce your Muslim friends to come here too.

The Menu. They sell only laksa and Heng Hua noodles.  For laksa menu, you can choose the ingredients. Only egg / chicken / prawn / sea clam / all (large), or all with sea clam. My bro was wanting to have the super big laksa RM48, which the portion suits for 4 - 5 pax. I stopped him because I wanted to have Heng Hua noodle instead of laksa.

Extra menu. They also have salmon laksa.

My Heng Hua noodle. As they don't serve pork, so the meat is replaced with chicken. Though the chicken meat was soft but I still prefer it with 3-layer pork. This reminds me of the Heng Hua noodle I like the most at Ang Cheng Ho. I should visit there again next time.

This is the laksa with egg ingredient only (RM6.00). Though the laksa outside generally costs RM6 per bowl for all ingredients, but this place offers the air-conditioned environment so it is a give and take balance.

The laksa with sea clam RM12.00. This is it that made me drooled. The prawns and sea clams were so fresh! The laksa soup was super savoury as well. Thumbs up! It's worth to visit this place again and again.

This is the map to Uncle Ben's Signature Laksa House.

Next time we'll challenge the super big laksa. If you doubt how big is the bowl like, check out in their Facebook page HERE. Oh yeah, they also have fresh local scallop laksa but it is limited supply.

Fu Yu Kopi Shop 富裕茶室, Kuching

Location: 74, Lot 300, Jalan Sekama, 93300 Kuching

I'm not too sure of their business hour. Should be available for breakfast and lunch only. There are three coffee shops in a row here which are quite popular among Kuchingnites. Talking about Sarawak laksa, the laksa here is one of the famous ones in the list. And the seafood kolo mee here is also the locals' favourite.

The stall selling seafood kolo mee. They have variety of choices too. Fried or kolo mee, I saw some  customers ordered the tomato mee too.

The laksa stall, 必芳叻沙. You can choose laksa with yellow noodles or beehoon (vermicelli).  Normal, RM5 the prawns in smaller size. Special, RM7 with bigger prawns.

The pork innards and seafood soup with kolo mee. The soup was good, but the springiness of noodle was not up to my expectation.

The Sarawak laksa, the normal bowl. The taste of broth is not overly flavoured with 'coconut milk'. Contents: Prawns, fried egg strips, bean sprouts, shredded chicken meat, and most importantly the chilli paste with lime.

The claypot mee also not bad. Another good choice for breakfast or lunch.

There's another stall here selling kuih. I doubt if the guy is still running business here or not. I used to buy the deep-fried sesame bun, its taste was nice. Little sweetness, full of sesame aroma. Crispy outside but soft inside. Been wanting to buy for few times but didn't get it in time. It's the only place I know that sells this pastry.

Sarawak Laksa @Golden Arch Mall 金门楼, Kuching

Location: Golden Arch Mall, Jalan Datuk Tawi Sli, 93250 Kuching, Sarawak.
Available from morning till lunch hour.

Talking about laksa, everyone has their own preference. And this laksa with thicker santan (coconut milk) at Golden Arch is my bro's favourite. There are two laksa vendors here, one at Golden Arch Cafe, and another at Garden Cafe & Restaurant. My bro prefers Garden Cafe's laksa. Honestly I seldom visit Golden Arch Mall because of its limited parking lots, and their hygiene level is improvable.

Garden Cafe & Restaurant is located behind Golden Arch Cafe, at corner lot.

The big bowl laksa with slightly bigger prawns. The gravy is lumpy, which looks not so appetizing.

Other options available at Golden Arch Cafe. Teochew soup with beehoon / kolo mee / kueh tiaw.

There is also one stall selling Foochow cuisine at Golden Arch Cafe. I had this "Ding Bian Hu" (鼎边糊). It was cooked by the worker, not owner. But I was quite surprised as the taste did not disappoint me.

This place is a good place for breakfast because of its variety choices. Though limited parking space, it is still possible to get a parking lot if you come between 11am - 11:30am.

Ah Yew Laksa 阿友叻沙@Goodtaste Cafe 好口福茶餐室

Location: Jalan Sekama, 93300 Kuching, Sarawak

This laksa was introduced by my former boss, his choice of best Sarawak Laksa in Kuching. Undeniable, the gravy is nice. It is one of the best laksa in old record.

Laksa at Min Joo Kee 民裕居

Address: Jalan Ang Cheng Ho, Kuching

Forgive me for not taking the front shop photo, I will definitely upload it the next time as there are other food I want to try on my next visit (though I had it before). But it is the first time I had the laksa here. My friend missed this lady's laksa, saying she used to be her regular customer. Luckily it was still available around 10:40am. It is usually sold out before 10am.

Sarawak Laksa RM5.00

The laksa soup is quite "lumpy" because it is prepared in early morning. Over the time, the soup gets thicker because of the coconut milk. Some people prefer thicker soup, I still prefer if the soup is freshly cooked.

Chong Choon Cafe 泉春茶室

Location: Lot 121, Abell Road, 93100 Kuching

This is well-known Laksa place among Kuchingnites. Many tourists have included this place in their itinerary too. Though there are many other Sarawak Laksa available in town and even better taste. But the location of Chong Choon Cafe is more convenient to tourists.

Poh Lam Laksa (RM6.00)

The size of the shrimp is as big as the spoon

Fried Carrot Cake (RM2.50)

They have toast and sandwich too.

I recommend this Egg in Toast (RM2.40). Best toast ever!

In Kuching, you must try our 3 layer Teh C peng. I'm not a fan of gula apong (Palm Sugar), the aroma is not my liking. Many people like the combination of tea, evaporated milk and gula apong. At Chong Choon Cafe, you can order different sizes of drink. The jumbo size of mug will amaze you for sure.

This is the medium size 3 layer teh c peng.
