Homemade Pan Mee 2 @Hua Hee Corner 歡喜閣, Premier 101, Kuching

Location: 8526-8531, Lorong Kempas 6, Kempas Heights, 93350 Kuching, Sarawak
Business hours: Monday - Sunday (7:00AM - 1:30PM), Thursday Off

UPDATED: Homemade Pan Mee 2 has moved to new location, Hua Wei Yuan 华味园 at Galacity

Lately I have my favourite place for makan. I discovered this stall by chance, had kampua mee at here then found out majority of the customers ordered pan mee. Decided to make my next visit to try it out. And it then became my regular place for brunch nowadays.

This is the stall selling Pan Mee which I gonna introduce herein. The stall front looks unattractive and I didn't bother to have a look at the menu on my first visit. It's worth saying, never judge a book by its cover. I'm a pan mee lover. If you like pan mee too, it's definitely worth to pay a visit here. They have variety of pan mee menus for you to choose from.

On my first visit, I had the original pan mee soup. It was nice too. The soup is flavourful. They have 3 types of noodles: flat, round, and hand-torn.

Dry pan mee. Again, don't judge it by its look. This is one of my favourite menus at this stall too. They make the sambal by themselves, no belacan added so you are worry-free if you are allergic to it. I like their meatballs and pork meat slices too, the texture is soft and smooth.

If you like to have something sour and spicy, please do try their pan mee with sour and spicy soup (酸辣湯). The vendor usually provides a slice of lime to add more sourness of the soup. She always reminded me to taste the soup first before adding the extra lime juice. This menu is also my favourite. Slurp!

The other stall selling kolomee and kampua also not a bad choice. My mum had the handmade noodles, its taste has exceeded my expectation too. This morning we went there again, my mum ordered the Foochow soup noodles from the stir-fry stall. The taste also not bad, soup texture was thick and generous portion of ingredients.

Address: SL56, Ground Floor, Gala City, Jalan Tun Jugah, 93350 Kuching, Sarawak.
Business hours: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 4:00pm, Saturday - Sunday 7:00am - 3:00pm

Gala City is now very popular place for food hunting. We found this shop selling noodles, so decided to try out. It's just a few units away from Southbank Grill & Chill.

I had the normal set, soup with homemade ramen. Price at RM8.50. The soup contains pork innards and meat slices. The soup portion is quite big, the taste is similar to KK Sang Nyuk Mian. The chilli sauce is also very spicy. The noodle texture was soft and chewy. Overall the food was quite good. You can choose different types of noodle and the size of soup portion.

Cornerstone Oyster Mee Sua 磐石蚵仔面线 @吉祥101, Premier 101 Kuching

Address: 48-49, Premier 101 Commercial Centre, Jalan Kempas, 93350 Kuching, Malaysia
Business hours:  Monday - Sunday, closed on Tuesday (update later)

Yeow Kee Kopitiam is usually packed and difficult to get a seat during peak hours. I would opt to settle my meal next door.  I am the regular customer of the fast food stall at this coffeeshop, the variety is wide and the ingredients the vendor used are all quality. Not to mention, the food is delicious too. Best part is you can get fast food as early as 9:30am at here. I'll blog about the fast food next time. Today I wanna introduce this tasty oyster mee sua which I accidentally discovered.

This coffeeshop has changed new owner again. Hope they will sustain long. Honestly speaking, their service was good and the beverages prepared were also up to par. The thickness of teh C didn't disappointing us.

This is the oyster mee sua stall. They accept Sarawak Pay, guess they don't have Boost yet.

The price list for Oyster Mee Sua, RM6 for normal ingredients. If you are keen to add particular ingredients such as intestine and abalone slices, the price differs.

This is my bowl of oyster mee sua and kopi C.

The size of oyster is about the size of soup spoon.

China Northeast Cuisine 东北家乡菜 @Jolibee Food Court 美家樂食坊, Chung Lin Park Kuching

Address: 17, Lorong Mendu 1, Chung Lin Park, 93200 Kuching, Sarawak.
Business hours: Operates in evening time, off on every 1st and 15th day lunar month.

This is my first blog post in 2020. I'm still thinking how to do it better since blogging is no longer the trend now. So my objective this year will be mastering videography. I'm still finding the materials to write for my blog. Started last year my post has reduced tremendously because I have put focus on my main business. Travel less and my daily routine is like a loop, nothing special.

Chung Lin Park in Kuching is used to be famous place for massage. There are a number of massage centres here. As their masseuses were mostly from China, the Chinese regional cuisine was also getting started available here. The other day my sister-in-law suggested to try it out as her friends highly recommended a signature dish here.

Jolibee Food Court has revamped. The environment is brighter and more hygienic as compared to before.

This is the stall we patronised. Wide variety of dishes for you to choose from. The business is run by a friendly couple.  They are diligent, only take two days off every month. Rest on the 1st and 15th day of lunar month.

Another vendor also selling Chinese cuisine. Both vendors from different regions.

Another stall behind selling duck wings and necks which are famous as well. I bought duck wings and feet to try out.

The taste of braised duck wings and feet was good, very strong pepper in flavour. It's rather too spicy for me.

The signature boiled meat slices, Shui Zhu Rou Pian 水煮肉片. You can choose the soup base too. I chose Ma La 麻辣, and got them to reduce the spiciness. A bowl of this can be shared for 4 pax. The ingredients contained meat slices, potatoes, mushrooms, beansprouts, cabbage, black fungus, and beancurd.

Stir-fried Eggplants. I usually won't order this because I don't like eggplants. Much to my surprise, this dish is addictive.

回锅肉 translated as twice-cooked meat slices, it's also the signature Sichuan dish. I found the meat slice was kind of hard to chew because it had been cooked twice so the meat was not soft and juicy.

Ah Guan Kopitiam 源滿楼 @Taman BDC, Kuching

Address: No. 946, GF, Jalan Stampin, Taman BDC, 93250 Kuching, Sarawak
Business hours: Monday - Sunday 7:30am - 2:00pm, 5:30pm - 10:00pm (Thursday off)

These days I always settle my meals at BDC. I became a regular customer of this coffee shop. They have assorted toast breakfast sets, kolo mee, and fried dishes such as fried kway tiaw, fried rice, fried noodles, etc.

I usually have kolo kueh tiaw / kway tiaw for breakfast. It costs RM3.00 and comes with a small bowl of clear soup. You can notice the deep-fried lard bits on top. It's really flavourful, the best part is that it is not greasy. I am very particular about the thickness of kueh tiaw, and this vendor uses the right thickness of kueh tiaw that is perfect for kolo method (boiled and tossed).

KL Hokkien Mee (RM6.00). It's authentic to the Hokkien Mee in KL so the taste is slightly sweet.

Penang Wok Fried Kway Tiaw with Duck Egg (RM6.00). This is one of their signature dishes. The portion is bigger than my expectation, and it's only RM6.00. But somehow it's still lack of something which I can't justify. Too dry?

Big Breakfast Set RM18.50. Their breakfast sets are slightly pricey. But the taste is good and they are very hygienic. I usually order their egg or chicken breast sandwich. It's worth to give it a try.

Oh yeah, they also serve Western food in the evening. I haven't tried it yet. The Western food menu looks appealing. Should pay a visit next time.

Xinjiang BBQ Skewers 中国新疆烧烤 @Premier 101, Kuching

Business hours: Monday - Sunday 5:00pm - 12:30am

Premier 101 area has many food stalls operated by vendors from China. I don't usually visit there because of the traffic congestion and the BBQ smoke environment. Years ago my friend bought this Xinjiang bbq skewers and I was impressed with the taste.

Chicken wings RM12 per 4 pcs.

Flammulina RM5

Mutton skewers RM10 per 4 sticks.

If you like it spicy, you can ask them to spread more chili powder. All the skewers taste the same, it's cumin. I like mutton skewers the most.

Spring Delight Cafe 品虾面店 @Taman BDC, Kuching

Address: 943, Lorong Bdc, Taman Satria Jaya, 93350 Kuching, Sarawak
Business hours: Friday - Wednesday 7:30am - 1:30pm (Thursday off)

I visit Taman BDC almost every day to get food for lunch and dinner. This Spring Delight Cafe is quite crowded at times in the morning. I had it once before. However, I was not so impressed. Last Monday came to patronize again with my family for brunch.

Fish Kueh Teow Soup (RM8.50)

Mix Soup with Mee Kuning (RM10.00)

This is my Prawn Mee Hoon Soup (RM9.00). With 3 thumb-size of prawns, RM9 a bowl. What do you think? The soup was tasty and the ingredients were fresh. The vendor cooked each order individually. As you can see the different versions of the clear soups presented here.

4 pieces of Belacan Chicken @RM6.00. Among all the dishes, this is the only one I would compliment. The chicken is flavourful and crispy skin. The chicken itself is not marinated with belacan but the dipping sauce is made of belacan. A piece of this chicken is only RM1.50. I thought we would get the breast meat but surprisingly it's thigh meat. This is fried chicken is good to go with rice.

Noodle Experts 麵匠 @Kenyalang Park, Kuching

Address: Lot 10716, Kenyalang Park Shopping Centre, Jalan Sim Kheng Hong, Wisma Lai Suee Yian, 93300 Kuching, Sarawak
Business hours: Monday - Sunday 6:30am - 1:00pm

Have not updated my blog for some time as I had no time to try out other places. Usually had quick meal at place which was convenient to go. I have not been to Noodle Experts for long time. My old post of Noodle Experts was published in 2013.

I ordered the Mee Pok Set (RM8.00). The soup contains shrimp, pork liver, fish ball, meatball, 3-layer pork slices, beancurds and veges. The taste was flavourful, fresh ingredients and big portion. It's good that they used the freshly fried red onions, not the commercial pack which you can get off-the-shelf.

The noodle served was kolo mee, not mee pok (I asked for two mee pok sets). The noodle was tasted alright, not as aromatic and flavourful as the branch at Jalan Song. But I was quite pleased with its fried lard.
