YHA Coolangatta Gold Coast + Annie's Shandon Inn Brisbane

Last month 13th I brought my mum to Gold Coast, 5 days 4 nights. My friend also joined our trip. As we planned to go to Brisbane on the second day, we decided to stay somewhere nearby Gold Coast Airport. Reduced the hassle to mobilise around with luggage as we landed at Gold Coast airport around 8.30pm. Googled online, YHA Coolangatta is the only hostel nearest to the airport, by walking distance. And best thing is that they have family room, costs only AUD100.

It took us roughly 5 to 10 minutes walk to reach YHA Coolangatta.

This is our room, it is spacious but no aircond/heater provided. It is quite a pain to sleep in during cold night. Guess that is reason they prepare extra blankets in the room.

The kitchen, swimming pool, games room, and common room. Free coffee and tea bags are provided in the kitchen. Fully equipped with utensils and kitchenware.

The next morning, we returned to Gold Coast Airport to purchase our Go Card. The airport is quite small and easy to explore. It is only one level, so there is no jet bridge. Just like what we experienced at LCCT.

Route to Brisbane: Take bus #761 from Gold Coast airport to Varsity Lakes train station, then take train to Brisbane Central station. On the journey to Brisbane, you can use the carriage WiFi for free.

After approximately 1.5 hours ride, we found our way to Annie's Shandon Inn at Upper Edward Street. It is not far from Brisbane Central station. I chose Annie's Shandon Inn because its high ratings. And the price is affordable for me, it is only AUD 109 for a triple room with private bathroom. When we entered the guest house, the English style design really made us WOW.

The room we had is on lower ground. Really enjoyed the quietness. Room and bathroom are very spacious. Fan and aircon/heater are available too.

The corridor outside our room. And the small kitchen. It has what you need, microwave, jug kettle, stove, free coffee and tea bags. We had our dinner at this kitchen too. Tips for travel on budget, we normally buy some discounted food from supermarket and heat it up with microwave.

The balcony on the ground floor.

The breakfast area. Oh yeah, the price AUD 109 is inclusive of breakfast. Toasts, cereals, milk, orange, coffee and tea. Thumbs up! Settled our breakfast, felt so full after two slices of toast, cereals with milk, one glass of orange and one cup of coffee.

The black and white pictures on the wall tell the history of Annie's Shandon Inn.

After breakfast, we head out to walk around the Brisbane city and visit the botanic garden near QUT. Update it next post.
