Fu Yu Kopi Shop 富裕茶室, Kuching

Location: 74, Lot 300, Jalan Sekama, 93300 Kuching

I'm not too sure of their business hour. Should be available for breakfast and lunch only. There are three coffee shops in a row here which are quite popular among Kuchingnites. Talking about Sarawak laksa, the laksa here is one of the famous ones in the list. And the seafood kolo mee here is also the locals' favourite.

The stall selling seafood kolo mee. They have variety of choices too. Fried or kolo mee, I saw some  customers ordered the tomato mee too.

The laksa stall, 必芳叻沙. You can choose laksa with yellow noodles or beehoon (vermicelli).  Normal, RM5 the prawns in smaller size. Special, RM7 with bigger prawns.

The pork innards and seafood soup with kolo mee. The soup was good, but the springiness of noodle was not up to my expectation.

The Sarawak laksa, the normal bowl. The taste of broth is not overly flavoured with 'coconut milk'. Contents: Prawns, fried egg strips, bean sprouts, shredded chicken meat, and most importantly the chilli paste with lime.

The claypot mee also not bad. Another good choice for breakfast or lunch.

There's another stall here selling kuih. I doubt if the guy is still running business here or not. I used to buy the deep-fried sesame bun, its taste was nice. Little sweetness, full of sesame aroma. Crispy outside but soft inside. Been wanting to buy for few times but didn't get it in time. It's the only place I know that sells this pastry.

The Famous Chicken Feet @Spring Garden Cafe, Bintulu

Address: No. 268, Taman Sri Dagang, 97000 Bintulu
Business hours: 5pm something - dawn.

Raya holidays I went back to my hometown Bintulu, spent almost a week with family. On the day I departed Bintulu, I managed to sync my gmail. Found out a blog reader emailed me a few days ago and asked to introduce some good food place in Bintulu. I felt quite bad as I replied him quite late, bet he might had left before my email?

Ok, back to the topic. If you visit Bintulu, you must not miss this deep-fried chicken feet from Spring Garden Cafe. I grew up with this cafe, the business is run by a family. The brother and sister take order, some times the mother. Other sibling and family members are working in the kitchen. Their business starts at 5pm something or 6pm, then ends in dawn hour. My friend ever went there around 3am. It is a good place to fill stomach after clubbing.

The deep-fried chicken feet. Though it looks unappetising and unattractive. You'll be surprised with its taste. And you won't be able to stop after the first piece. Every table will surely have this dish on table. It's very addictive and irresistible.

There are other dishes we usually will order: Fried pork intestines and pork ear with dried chilies, fried cockles, mixed vegetables soup, and fried kangkong (water spinach). Another famous dish is the deep-fried black pomfret.

The peak hour is between 7 - 10pm. It's norm that you might have to wait up to 1 hour for your order to be served. But it worths the wait, don't worry.

ABC Seafood @Top Spot Food Court, Kuching

Location: Jalan Bukit Mata Kuching, 93100 Kuching, Sarawak.

When comes to seafood in Kuching, Top Spot aka Taman Kereata is always the best choice for tourists. I'm not too sure about their business hour. Normally it would be safe to go there during evening time, as day time temperature at the roof top might be too hot for lunch. There are a number of stalls available but you may notice Ling Loong Seafood has at least 2 stalls here.

It was my birthday celebration, I suggested to go there since I had not been there for ages. This time the staffs here were not as pestering like last time. As I have tried Ling Loong Seafood few times, so I wanted to make a change this time. We settled at ABC Seafood. But I made a bad choice this time. The dishes were rather disappointing. My bro kept grumbled, the price was acceptable for the dishes but the taste was not.

Various fishes on ice for selection. Some fishes were fresh, some weren't. I'm not good at judging the freshness of the fish, but by noticing the fish eyes you can easily know. Don't choose the fish with red and/or dehydrated eyes.

There are also assorted vegetables and ingredients for you to choose.

Freshwater prawns, and large prawn?

Crabs.. my bro's favourite.

Lobsters, cockles, bamboo clams,  mantis shrimps, and squids.

Stir-fried cangkuk manis (star gooseberry) with egg. The taste was alright, not as I expected.

Cockles is my favourite. This one didn't surprise me too.

Sea cucumber soup.

Black pepper deer meat. I was kinda appreciate the taste but.. I felt thirsty after each bite, doubt MSG overdosed?

Stir-fried crabs with egg. This is what my bro was grumbling about, the taste was not great.

The steamed grouper. Taste was great because of the freshness.

There used to have one guy (bald head) approaches each table to ask if anyone wants to order BBQ seafood. I didn't notice him this time, doubt he is still doing business there. Years ago, I had company dinner at here. As we thought it would be about the market price so we gave it a try and ordered the BBQ stingray from him. And he asked for the price above RM100 for that. What a ripoff. Do ask him for the price and give him a budget you are willing to pay.

If you are not certain which stall to select, there is one easier way to make up your mind. Just go to the stall with higher number of customers. The better business the better taste.

Fu Shin Kwang Cafe 福星光餐饮室 @Rubber Road, Kuching

Location: Mei Jun Building, Lorong Rubber 1 & Rubber Road, 93400 Kuching, Sarawak.
Business Hours: Monday - Saturday 7:15AM - 2:00PM, closed on Sunday

Some page in Facebook provide good source of information. I found out this place from a Facebook page sharing good food in Kuching. This place is introduced by one of the members, the fish head beehoon is highly recommended. Located at Rubber Road, the same block with After Four Cafe. There is one nice chicken porridge in that area too, should visit there again soon.

Beef and chicken satays. The meat was quite hard to chew though. Not to my liking.

Mee Jawa, my bro's gf ordered this. She said the taste was good.

My bro and I had this fish head beehoon. We went there after 1pm, didn't see any stall selling fish head beehoon. I ordered it from the lady at the cashier counter. The fish slices were freshly fried, the soup was taste real good, though slightly spicy.

I thought my bro would't like it. Surprisingly he told me he would like to have it again. The coffee shop is only open until 2pm. The popiah here is very popular too but on Wednesday and Saturday. It's worth to give this place a try if you are not too far away from Rubber Road for breakfast or lunch.
