Happy Boxing Day, everyone! This will be my last post of 2017. Wishing all my readers Happy New Year in advance!
Last Sunday I was quite lazy to prepare my lunch box. Decided to drop by Ang Cheng Ho for a quick fix. I ever had my lunch at Meng Joo Kee when I worked at Petanak area. This place is popular for its kolo mee, kueh chap, laksa, cha kueh, pork leg rice, chicken soup mee sua and kaya toast.
I used to hand-carry a few packs of kolo mee here for my friends in Singapore. They liked it. If you would like to bring kolo mee for your friend or family member who stays overseas, you have to tell the vendor. The food preparation will be different in order to store for long hours.
A normal bowl of kolo mee here costs RM3.10, while others have increased their price to RM4.00. The char siew meat was rather dry and hard, but I have to say that the minced meat was real good. It's really flavourful. Too bad, the texture of noodle was not my preference. It was slightly soft and stuck in teeth when chewing.

Woon Lam Cafe 1999 @Jalan Song Thian Cheok, Kuching
Address: 187 - 189, Jalan Song Thian Cheok, 93100 Kuching, Sarawak
Business hours: Monday - Sunday 6AM - 6PM
I had not been to Woon Lam Cafe for decade. In my memory, the fast food and yong tau foo there were nice. I caught flu two days ago so decided to have something soupy, yong tau foo. In case you don't know the location, Woon Lam Cafe is located behind Secret Recipe at Jalan Song Thian Cheok.
The stall selling yong tau foo. You can choose the ingredients you want. However, the item selection is quite limited so shorten your time to choose. Noodle variation only has mee sua and mee pok (thick noodle).
The fast food stall, good variety of selection and the dishes taste nice too.
I asked for all the items. A bowl of this RM7. Quite worth it since the portion was large. The broth was surprisingly flavourful. I think elderly will like this bowl of yong tau foo.
Other than fast food and yong tau foo, there also have cha kueh, kueh chap, laksa, and porridge. Just checked online and found out the kueh chap here is famous too. But when I passed by the kueh chap stall and smelled the strong pork odor, I ever doubted their business. I was surprised majority customer ordered the kueh chap.

Ting Noodle House 陳記麵飯美食館 @Ban Hock Road, Kuching
Address: Ground Floor, 117B, Lot 132, Jalan Ban Hock, 93100 Kuching, Sarawak.
Business Hour: Monday - Saturday 10am - 8pm (Sunday off)
Hello, been not update my blog for weeks as busy with my bro's wedding. At last the wedding is ended last week. Yesterday finally got time to take a break, visited this Ting Noodle House at Ban Hock Road for brunch. This Taiwanese cuisine restaurant has been in Kuching for many years but still new to some Kuchingnites.
This restaurant serves the iconic Taiwanese dishes. The vendor married a Taiwanese. In the past, this Taiwanese taukenio always stood at the counter and greeted the walk-in customers "欢迎光临". It's the basic etiquette who runs a business in Taiwan culture. But now the customer service is improvable.
I used to come here for its minced pork rice and beef noodle. In those days, not many Taiwanese cuisine restaurants in Kuching. Another popular one is Taipei 101 at RH Plaza.
Iced Bubble Lemon Green Tea (RM4)
Seasoned Seaweed (RM3.50). Every time I visit here, normally will not skip ordering this seaweed as appetizer.
Pan Fried Chive Pork Dumplings (RM6.50). This one not recommended. It was quite oily on the dumpling skin. And the fillings was dry, taste quite awful.
Pork Rice (RM6.50). The layers of fat might look quite frightening to you right. It was not that greasy as you thought. The meat was soft and effortless to chew. What I don't like the most is that its portion is rather small. Oh well.. generally they serve the same portion too in Taiwan.
Minced Pork Rice (RM6.50). This looks different from what I had last time. The meat was in stripe form not minced? Anyway, my SIL said it's tasty.
Stewed Beef Noodle (RM9.50). The broth is light spicy and flavourful.
Mixed Beef Noodle. Our guest asked for bigger portion, so the portion is doubled from the beef noodle above.

Fu Rong Pan Mee Kopitiam 芙蓉板面 @MJC, Kuching
Address: AF 101, Ground Floor, Batu Kawa New Township, 93250 Kuching, Sarawak.
Business hours: 6:00am - 1:30pm Wednesday - Monday (Tuesday off)
Pan mee is one of my favourite food. As the soup tastes light with fragrance and sweetness of cangkuk manis (star gooseberry), I never grow bored of this dish. But there are a few vendors used chicken breast meat to replace the pork mince now. The taste was not as great and I don't appreciate the 'modified' version of pan mee. For me, authentic pan mee should have deep-fried anchovies, star gooseberry, pork mince and freshly kneaded noodle. Some of you might like to have egg in soup, but not me. The egg york spoils the original taste of the soup base.
I have read this Fu Rong Pan Mee in FB. Many responded and flooded with compliments. I came here first time with my bro, the vendor told me the waiting time is one hour. It was too long to wait for my bro, so we detoured to other place. On second visit I came here with my mum, bro and his wife-to-be. Phew, luckily it was not as crowded as the first time. We ordered 4 variety of pan mee to try.
They have variety of pan mee menus, dry, soup or fried version.
The husband and wife.
Pan Mee Soup with Add-on Fried Chicken. Not sure the price, should be less than RM8.
Pan Mee Soup, RM5.00.
Fried Chicken Pan Mee, RM6.00.
Fried Pan Mee, RM6.50.
All dishes we ordered are delicious. The fried pan mee is totally out of my expectation. My bro and I liked it very much. The soup is definitely worth our journey from far. Their sambal is quite unique too. It's not overly spicy, goes well with the noodle. If not because of its distance, I guess I don't mind to have pan mee here everyday.
